Black Lechwe management plant for Bangweulu Wetlands Park, Zambia
|
We worked with the Bengweulu Wetlands Management Board, a partnership between African Parks, the Zambian Wildlife Authority, and Community Resource Boards, to develop and refine a management plan for the iconic Black Lechwe. We dug through old maps and datasets, modern game counts and the modern remote sensing work done by African Parks to put together a picture of the population trends and movements of the Lechwe over several decades.

Veld monitoring, grazing, biodiversity and fire management for the forestry industry
|
Monitoring the veld and providing grazing and fire management recommendations for Mondi and SAFCOL, including long-term monitoring of the veld alongside many specialist partners. We use large-scale grazing capacity models that can be applied to anything from a smallholding to a vast forestry enterprise covering hundreds of thousands of hectares and our long-term database can import historical data to calculate trends over many years.

We wrote two rangeland management guidelines for a World Bank funded project in Malawi, through Aurecon South Africa. Each guideline was intended to be short, simple and aimed at landusers, and included finding an out-of-print book with the local names of the grasses of Malawi, thanks to the library at the National Botanical Gardens in Pretoria.
